We’ve been wanting to do one of our creative shoots in the snow with members of our Senior Model Team for a couple years now but the weather has not cooperated.  Good snow falls are getting fewer and fewer here in Kansas City like many other parts of the country.  When we received a couple inches of snow last week, we felt we needed to take advantage of it, even though the air temperature was in the mid-teens.

With school called off for most that day we contacted Kendall, who lives the closest to our studio, to check on her availability.  Fortunately, she was available and we quickly created a plan.  We already had the outfit we wanted to use at our studio so we just needed to give Kendall some guidance on the makeup look we wanted and tell her to prepare the best she could for the frigid weather we would be out in.  To make matters worse, there was a breeze sending the windchill factor down below zero.

That afternoon, Kendall arrived at our senior portrait studio and we loaded up our gear and made our way to a State Park, hoping to take advantage of the wooded areas and virgin snow.  The area of the park we had planned to use was closed off.  Things always don’t go as planned on photo shoots so you have to make the best of the situation.  We wound up finding an area we could use that also had a nearby building we could take warming breaks in.  They were definitely needed!  We were able to shoot for 10-15 minutes at a time before seeking some warmth.

Kendall is not only a beautiful, young lady but she is also a creative.  Her senior portrait session last summer was one of our most unique sessions to date as we worked together using her vision to create an editorial feel to many of her images.  For this shoot, she was quick to realize our vision for the images and fell into the character in front of the camera.  Although she was freezing in just a dress and cape, she was a trooper and hung in there to allow us to create these beautiful images.

This was our first snow shoot but definitely won’t be our last.  We love getting creative at our Kansas City Senior Portrait studio and that has earned us some awards and recognition as one of the top senior portrait studios in the nation. If you’d like us to help you get creative for your senior portraits, we’d love to hear from you and help you get the images you envision.
