The Investment

The cost to attend the EMERGE workshop is $1195.  Seats purchased prior to January 20th will be $1095.  Payment is due in its entirety upon booking your EMERGE seat. Payment does NOT include food, flight, or accommodations unless otherwise noted.  All sales are final and non-refundable.  All attendees must live/operate their business OUTSIDE of a 250 mile radius of Kansas City, MO.  In case of emergency, your workshop seat may be sold to or donated to another photographer who meets workshop requirements and signs the EMERGE contract. All attending photographers are required to agree to and sign a workshop contract including a non-disclosure agreement and non-compete/solicitation agreement prior to attending the workshop.  

If the workshop is sold out, one lucky attendee will receive 50% of their seat fee refunded at the end of the workshop.  Winner will be chosen by random drawing.  

About Maxxum Photography

We launched Maxxum Photography 8 years ago as a luxury senior portrait studio in Kansas City and quickly positioned our self as an unrivaled Senior Portrait Experience in our metro area.  Using a detailed plan to be unique in our market, the studio quickly became the place to go for clients who wanted something vastly different than what is being offered elsewhere.  With focus on image quality, creativity and the client experience, our multi-award winning and internationally published studio continues to be a popular destination for those that won’t settle for “good enough” and many travel from hours away to use our studio.

The workshop will be led by Dave Williams, who is a certified trainer, and he will teach the photography and business portion of the workshop.  His wife Jodi will teach the retouching portion of the workshop including creating edgy Sportraits and composite images that are immensely popular at the studio.


When do seats go on sale?

9 seats will be available at 11am CST on Monday, January 14th.  It is first come, first serve.  A PayPal link will be posted at the bottom of the workshop home page as well as this page on Monday, January 14th at 11am CST to use to purchase your seat.  In the event of a fast sellout, you may email us to be placed on a wait list to purchase from an attendee who cannot make it due to unforeseen circumstances.  We will go in order received.  

When and where will the workshop take place?

The workshop will be held at the home studio of Maxxum Photography, April 5-7 in Kansas City, MO. 

I'm just getting started in the photography business. Will this workshop be of benefit to me?

Absolutely!  The best way to go into business is with a solid understanding of the business and the tools to be successful.  Do understand that you need to know how to operate your camera in the manual setting as well as how to perform basic editing techniques in Photoshop.  

What do I need to bring with me to attend?

Recommended items would be your camera gear, memory cards, card reader, a laptop with Photoshop installed, a mouse or tablet for editing, a notebook, comfortable shoes and clothing based on the weather forecast.  Bring your current price list and any marketing collateral for review.  This list is obviously not all encompassing.   

What airport should I use?

Kansas City International (MCI) is approximately 15 minutes from our studio.  

Are there hotels close by?

Yes, there are quite a few hotels within a mile or two of the studio.  We will provide a list of nearby accommodations to you after you register.

Will I need transportation when I get there?

You will need to be able to travel to and from the airport and to and from your hotel to the studio each day.  We suggest attendees share Uber/Lyft rides.  We will arrange the transportation for our photo shoot excursion on Saturday.

How many attendees will there be?

A maximum of 9 seats are available for this workshop.

When does the workshop start and end?

We will kick things off with a meet and greet at the studio at 7pm on Friday.  We have much to cover so we will probably dive in shortly thereafter and cover what we can until about 11pm.  We will return to the studio for a full day of intense learning, shooting, editing and more.  We will go late into the evening.  We will reconvene on Sunday morning at 9am and should wrap no later than 5pm.  

What is the plan for food?

We will provide snacks and appetizers for our meet and greet on Friday and provide lunch on Saturday and Sunday. You are on your own for breakfast each day and dinners will be a group decision each evening and at the attendees expense.

Can I submit images created during the workshop for competition or publication?

No. This is an educational workshop. All images are created in an environment that has been set up by the instructors. You may use any images that you create for marketing and promotional purposes for your photography business (or for personal use) only.

Do we need to provide images to the models?

Yes.  We ask that you send us 5 edited images of each model you photograph within 3 weeks of the workshop conclusion.
